Railway bridge replacement over Dora Cesana River (Turin, Italy)

Near the town of Oulx (Turin, Italy), along the Turin – Modane railway, the replacement work of the one-span 34m-long steel deck was completed in the mid of August. Related works involved deviation of the river, refurbishment of the riverbed and construction of new bridge abutments.

SWS project managers were appointed for the definition of the optimal construction phases that guarantee the minimum shutdown time for the line. Structural and geotechnical engineers worked for the design of the temporary construction works and for the rail supporting system (courtesy of Essen Italia).

The huge 1250-ton crane, required for the deck launching operations, represented a unique landmark in the valley, thanks to its 150m-height.
