Romanian Transport State Secretary Ovidiu Sirbu announced that Sighisoara-Coslariu section, part of Brasov-Simeria railway, will be completed by the end of the year. The railway will allow trains to reach speeds of 160 km/h.
Sighisoara Tunnel, located between Sighisoara and Danes railway stations, undercrosses DN 13 at depths ranging between 5 and 14 m. The tunnel has three distinct parts, customised by the execution method:
- artificial tunnel (Sighisoara entrance), with a length of 20 m
- natural tunnel with a length of 325 m
- artificial tunnel (Danes entrance), with a length of 56 m
The 969-m long Danes Tunnel, the longest railway tunnel built in Romania after 1989.
Danes Tunnel is built using a modern technology implemented in three distinct parts, customised by the execution method:
- artificial tunnel (Sighisoara entrance), with a length of 20 m
- natural tunnel with a length of 862 m
- artificial tunnel (Danes entrance) with a length of 87 m
The rehabilitation of Brasov-Simeria railway, part of the pan-European Corridor IV stipulates that the traffic of trains should reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h on the above-mentioned section.
